Panels And Events


At LIL-CON we have 2 rooms for EVENTS and PANELS. The Event Room and the Discovery Room.

THE EVENT ROOM

The Event Room holds about 125 (standing room) or so people. The seating we have for this room is about 40 to 45 in the entrance isles, and then more area in the “overflow” area. In this area we usually have bigger panels take place including most guests. There sometimes are interactive events like “Iron Cosplay” which is easier for more space.

THE DISCOVERY ROOM

The Discovery Room, it is a smaller room that holds about 50 people, (30 seated). Very many interactive events happen in this room, but we have hosted lots of panels as well.

OTHER AREA EVENTS
It is possible to host events not in these 2 rooms depending on what the event is. Events we have thrown in the past such as the Hetalia Flag Ceremony, and others have been outdoors, on certain areas of the premises.

EVENT ROOM EVENTS

IRON COSPLAY – 12:30

An event that pits teams of cosplayers against each other making the best out of materials in an “Iron Chef” styled fashion. Participate or watch as teams create the most unique items from all sorts of secretly revealed materials, going head to head in a furious competition! Only one will win and take home the glory and be Iron Cosplay masters, as well as cool prizes!

COSPLAY ON A BUDGET – 1:30

Cosplay can be expensive, however there is help! Come check out our panel, COSPLAY ON A BUDGET in our wonderful event room, which we show many tricks of the trade of creating quick and inexpensive cosplay ideas for you to utilize whether it be props, outfits, or other cosplay related items!

TRANSFORMERS – A PANEL THAT MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE – 2:00
Presented by Matt Niemiec

This panel more than meets the eye. Presented by Matt Niemiec in our event room, we explore the in depth history of Transformers from their animation to toy lines, from their origins up to present day. Whether you are an Autobot or a Decepticon, you will love this awesome panel with showings of toys and figures and more in this amazing presentation.

LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE FROM EMCEE M.D. – 3:00

Musician/Video Game & Tabletop game designer Mark Miller, aka EMCEE M.D.  will be performing his unique style of nerdy hip hop about video games, superheroes, and slices of life. If you’re not familiar, with EMCEE M.D. he is a national touring musician, currently slaying the hip hop scene with his versatile style and Nintendo Power Glove. not only is he a musician but he is a video game designer and tabletop / board game designer, heading a company called Ichiban Games out of the Buffalo NY area. Don’t miss to catch some cool fun jams with EMCEE M.D. with a stage show that’s always exciting, as well as interactive…. you might even get a raptor dino hat!  And as EMCEE M.D. states, “TIME TO GET ROWDY”!

COOKING WITH KIKI – 3:30

Ever wanted to make authentic Asian cuisine? Well now’s your chance in this hands on experience! In our event room, join Kiki as she shows you how to make quick Asian food such as spring rolls, that are fast and ready to go. It’s super easy and fun, so join in, and then chow down!

THE HISTORY OF TABLETOP GAMING – 4PM

When was the first board game ever made? Was it in the 1920s? Or was it predated back before the Egyptian Times? In this interesting and informative panel, we explore the origins of board gaming and look into the vast history and diversity of gaming of all kinds, as well as the eras they come from. From card games to RPGs, to worker placement games to dice, gaming has influenced us all and the world around us. So please join us in a History Of Tabletop Gaming.

THE BROWN BOX – FIRST VIDEO GAME CONSOLE PROTOTYPE EVER MADE – 5PM
Presented by Game Historian Michael Thomason

In 1966, Ralph Baer created the first ever video game console prototype known as THE BROWN BOX. Only 3 of these in the world exist. in an informative panel about the video game industry, Video Game Historian Michael Thomason, will dive into the history of the beginning of video games and show off the console that started it all. He will talk about Ralph Baer’s life, and you will personally get to experience, touch, and play the incredible Brown Box.

COSPLAY CONTEST – 6PM

COSPLAY CONTEST – The return of our awesome cosplay contest!!! Held in our event room, we have 2 categories for the event; Walk On and Exhibition with some of the most articulate and knowledgeable judges around. The best costume wins it, so dress up in your best costume of ANY kind. Trophies for 1st place, as well as big prizes. Oh and did we mention, the most skilled cosplayer in Exhibition competes for a CASH PRIZE! Details in the Cosplay section. From Sci-Fi, to Horror, to Video Games, to Comics, to Anime… MAY THE BEST COSPLAYER WIN!!!

MAKE THE HERO! – ART PANEL – 7PM

Heroes aren’t just made, they are drawn! In this interactive panel with artist Stacy Wead, you will learn how to create characters from scratch, and also from figure drawing models to learn the human form. You will learn techniques to become a masterful artist, and learn the skill of creating character artwork of all flavors of art from fantasy, manga/anime, and more! We supply all the paper, pencils, and other utensils you’ll need for sketching your creation, all you need is your imagination. From basic to advanced, this is definitely a panel for all to have fun in learning to create your own masterpieces!

 

“WHAT’S YOUR QUIRK” SHOWDOWN – 8PM

Let the battle begin! Themed after the acclaimed Manga / Anime series My Hero Academia, we have the funniest and most entertaining crowd interactive panel ever! If you like the Cosplay Dating Game event panels at conventions, you will absolutely love this! In this fun improv event, participants are picked from the audience 2 at a time. They then draw 1 random “quirk” out of a box and then are asked questions pertaining to their superpowers defining what their character is and how they will win a battle against the other person… however there’s a catch…these quirks are and pretty much useless. What’s your superhero name? How would you do battle? What’s you finishing move?! The audience decides the winner! Many participants will be picked to participate in this awesome and hilarious panel!

THE EPIC STORY (READING) – 9PM

A staple to our wonderful convention The Epic Story is a continually written story written by you and other attendees. The epic story will start as does the convention, which throughout the day many will inscribe a few sentences making this story be amazing! What shall the theme be this year? Come find out! At 9PM the Epic Story will be read in the Event Room just before the Vocaloid concert. Come join the fun!

LIVE VOCALOID CONCERT – 9:15 PM

LIVE VOCALOID CONCERT! – Who’s ready to dance?! Get ready to have some fun and dance it up in a Vocaloid show that is being put on by us and our good friends of Blurrie-Con (a convention we are friends with in Erie PA happening in October). Hatsune Miku and of your favorite Project Diva characters will be there, plus possibly a few special secret characters as a surprise! Join us and Check out all the Vocaloid fun, and dance your hearts out! Bring your glow sticks and get ready to party!

 

DISCOVERY ROOM EVENTS

SLYTHERIN – at NOON
Presented by The WNY Herpetological Society

The one of a kind, Harry Potter themed LIVE snake exhibit, located in The Discovery Room. Thanks to The WNY HERP Society and Petra Link (Wildlife Rehabilitator), we can make this amazing exhibit happen. You can touch and pet many beautiful snakes, and also learn about all of them. An amazing chance for photo opportunities, especially with the large ones! The WNY HERP Society will be accepting donations for their cause of helping, rescuing, and preserving these great animals.

 

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS TIMELINE PANEL – 3PM

For the fun of it, we’re throwing a light-hearted, yet quite interesting panel that’s bound to be MEME worthy in the greatest intentions possible. Presenting the SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS TIMELINE PANEL. This panel has surprisingly been a wonderful topic of interest, so hey, why not throw something just for the fun of it. The universe of Spongebob is quite unique and the theories of it are actually quite more in depth than we would see. So come in, and be amazed by our favorite animated sponge, and the timeline of coexisting in our time and space.

MONSTERS OF FOLKLORE – 4PM

Our incredible historian of lore and knowledge Kelly Menzel is back with an incredible panel that dives deep into the beasts, creatures, and the origins they come from. From the divine to the mundane you will be able to explore into the history and the detailed legends that follow all sorts of monsters from multiple historical eras. From fairies to dragons, Wendigo, to werewolves, it is an incredible world of mysteriousness especially in the literature that comes with them. If there’s a creature you’d like to know about, just ask!

25 YEAR SAILOR MOON CELEBRATION – at 5PM

The incredible Manga / Anime of Sailor moon has been around for 25 great years, and coincidentally June 30th is also Sailor Moon’s Birthday! Come check out the discovery room at 5PM for our Sailor Moon Celebration where we will encompass the history and all that is Sailor Moon. Have a piece of Sailor Moon cake while you enjoy the greatness of this amazing fandom seeing all things Sailor Moon! An exciting event to behold.

 

WRITING FOR PUBLICATION – 6PM

Join Chris from Encoded Designs and Misdirected Mark Productions in a panel about the process of taking your concept from idea, whether it be an RPG you are writting, a story, comic book, etc., to published format.

 

VIDEO GAME DESIGN – A LOOK INTO THE DIGITAL REALM

Whether it be exploring mystical lands, duking it out head to head in in an over the top fighting fiasco, or solving puzzles in a race against time and space, video games have become one of the biggest sources of fun and play in the world. But how do you design an idea and put it to the screen? In this informative panel game designer Mark Miller of Ichiban Games and Phil Lowerey of Lucid Wolf Studios dive head first and show you all about game design. See the ins and outs of all positions of video gaming, as well as where you can get free tools to even start on game ideas of your own. Weather you’re an artist, a programmer, writer, voice actor, or just an enthusiast looking to get into the world of video gaming, this panel is for you!

 

COMIC BOOKS A LEGACY DEFINED – 8PM

Throughout our history, amazing minds have risen incredible protagonists, solving the most extreme hardships, as a symbol of our world. Comic books, a story through visual art, has captivated millions of people through exciting characters, story lines, and the abilities of many far beyond the human capacity from names like Marvel, Image, Archie, DC, and MANY more. In this incredible panel led by The Western New York Superheroes And Cosplayers, we talk about comic books from it’s original conception, to the present. The ultimate panel for any comic book enthusiast, do not miss it!

OTHER EVENTS

POKEBALL HUNT – 4PM

As a LIL-CON tradition, and one of our biggest events, it’s the great POKE’BALL HUNT! When the whistle blows, find hidden Poke’mon balls scattered throughout the premises. There will be newly added obstacles and NPCs which you will have to face to achieve some pokeballs. Poke’balls = prizes… so remember…gotta catch ’em all!!!
